About
I love to ask why.
Why is there pain? Why is there love? Why should I care? Why don’t other people care? I have spent my whole life reading, questioning, debating, and thinking about why. Why do I wonder why?…
I am a big fan of science and math and you will find some of that on this website. You will also find some philosophy, some behavioral economics, some evolutionary biology, some history, and some neural science.
But what this site is mostly about, and I really hate this word, is religion.
Please don’t run away.
Our society has become so good at surviving that we don’t think we need religion anymore. Questions about meaning don’t seem as important nowadays because we are not constantly confronted with death, but they are important. They are important because we are going to die. Wait!
I’m not talking about religion being important because of the idea of an afterlife. In fact, I fight with the idea of an afterlife because if that is the only reason you believe in some sort of religion, it means you are loving others to save yourself, which defeats the point and you are in a vicious circle.
This is the interactive portion of the About section. There will come a day when you die and you might want to be ready so actually try this:
Imagine that you are going to die in exactly two minutes. You can’t call anyone or do anything, say you are on the electric chair and you have two minutes to sit there and then you, that personality that lives in a body, will be over.
If you are like me you get 15 seconds in and you stop because it’s scary, and some afterlife that I can’t even begin to imagine doesn’t help.
What I want is to have peace that I did what I needed to do with my life.
This is what this website is about. My search, my struggle, and my steps in figuring out and implementing what I need to do.
If you are already pretty confident in a religion or non-religion, you may find ideas and questions here that shake you a little bit. That is okay, getting shaken helps you to find out where you are wobbly.
I personally confidently believe in the Bible. My view is that if I am on a mission to find out what I am and why I am here, it is better to trust a book written and compiled over hundreds of years and followed by billions of people, than to trust my own thoughts and ideas.
That being said I want to be clear that this website is not intended to convince anyone of anything, and I certainly do not judge other people for having other beliefs. I happen to know the Bible quite well and find peace in learning from it. I have a hard time with certain parts of it and am perfectly okay with questioning it. One of the reasons I trust the Bible is it’s wholehearted endorsement of knowledge.
If you do not trust the Bible, or if you trust the Bible and don’t like what I say about it, please let me know. However, please don’t come to me with complaints about what other people have done with the Bible in the past.
Science is knowledge, therefore science is good. It is absolutely not okay to judge other people. All people are of equal value. ‘Religion’, it’s rituals, and it’s holier than thou attitude are all disgusting. When in doubt, if it doesn’t look like love, it is wrong.
Lastly, I have to say that I believe in Jesus and what the Bible says about Him. I struggle everyday with what this means. I loath to think that just saying a name is some sort of password, and I search everyday for a deeper knowledge. Right now I am content with reading about His life (which was really beautiful) and trying to follow it.
I am only telling you what I believe so it doesn’t come as a surprise later. I have no desire to preach at people. I like conversation and learning about interesting and important things. If this website turned into a place where I can talk and debate about my ideas it would be a dream come true.
I actually like it when people disagree with me and prove me wrong. It means I am learning, and that is what this website is about.
I don’t plan on doing any marketing or promotion for this website, so if you like it and would like to read more, sign up for updates below. Also, if you know people who would enjoy the kind of articles posted here, let them know!
