This little fact is possibly the most freeing thing that I know – You are not better or worse than anyone.

It is so cliché that no one even bothers to mention it anymore. If you Google ‘all people are equal’ you will get a whole slew of articles entitled ‘all people are not equal.’

No one wants to read about something so obvious as equality.

This is a shame because it means we take it for granted that a hobo and a king are somehow of equal value.

I personally am curious about how this equation works. There is no mention of a mathematical function we need to put people through that balances their productive value with what they started with and somehow equalizes everyone, so how can we say people are all equal?

If both were drowning is the hobo’s life of equal value to the king’s?

My first reaction is that, yes, of course the hobo’s life is of equal value, but on further thought I realize that thousands of people are depending on this king’s survival.

All the articles that are about how we are not equal are essentially about how we are not the same, which to me is obvious. Meanwhile, the thing that is taken as obvious, that our lives are all of equal value, is hard to figure out and harder to put into action.

To start with it must mean that there can be no value added to our lives by the things we do, otherwise the king’s life would surely be worth more than the hobo’s. Or, at least it means that the value that is added is not measurable by human scales.

I do think that what we do is the only thing that is important, but it is not to add value to our own lives. We need to play our own part in a cosmic story and that is where our value comes from.

This means that it is not possible for us to be able to judge other people.

For sure, some people are doing bad things. However, those people are not identified with who they really are. They are just slaves to their desires. They are no better than animals, and cannot be held responsible and so their actions don’t make their lives less valuable.

Those who are identified with themselves are no longer in the realm of good and bad. They are in the cosmic story where everyone is of equal value.

It is complicated but it is the only way that I can see that makes us all of equal value. Our value is in our potential, not is what we do…

That’s it!

Out value is in our potential, not in what we do, and so we must value and love every single human being equally!
